American Dream Grant

American Dream Grant

$10,000 Grant for First Time Homebuyers in Utah

The American Dream Grant helps eligible Utah buyers overcome one of the biggest barriers to homeownership – the cash needed to buy.

Quick Overview

  • $10,000 grant toward down payment or closing costs
  • No repayment required and no lien placed on the home
  • Awarded by random drawing
  • Available to eligible first-time homebuyers in Utah
  • If selected, buyers must close within 90 days

Why This Grant Exists

Many Utah buyers reach the same frustrating point. The payment works. Credit is solid. Income is steady.

But the upfront costs create a delay that can stretch on for years.

It's not a motivation problem. It's a timing problem. Qualified buyers are often ready long before the savings catch up.

The American Dream Grant was created to help bridge that gap. It's administered by the Salt Lake Board of Realtors through SLBR Charities, a nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to homeownership.

The goal is simple: Give working Utah families a real opportunity to move from renting to owning when they are otherwise financially prepared.

When selected, the grant provides meaningful funds at closing so buyers can move forward sooner, without adding debt, repayment obligations, or liens on the home.

Who Is Eligible for the American Dream Grant?

  • First-time homebuyer (no home ownership in the past 3 years)
  • Credit score greater than 640
  • Household income at or below $141,400
  • Pre-qualified with a mortgage lender
  • Owner-occupied primary residence
  • Traditional, modular, or manufactured homes qualify (mobile homes do not)
  • Working with a Realtor who is a primary member of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors

Here’s the Step-by-Step Process

1. Apply
Submit one application per household (co-borrowers apply jointly)
2. Drawing
Winners are selected by random drawing
3. Notification
Realtors are notified once selections are finalized
4. Find your home
You have 90 days to find and close on a property
5. Closing
The $10,000 is sent directly to your title company
6. Move in
No repayment and no lien – the money is yours to keep

If a transaction closes before the grant is officially awarded, the buyer is no longer eligible for that drawing.

Your Story Could Be Next

This grant has helped Utah families go from "someday" to "move-in day." From scrolling through listings they couldn't afford to holding keys to homes they now own. From teaching their kids about dreams to showing them how dreams come true.

The American Dream isn't dead. It's alive and well in Utah, backed by a community that believes homeownership matters. That stability matters. That giving families a real shot at building wealth and security matters.

Quarterly drawings happen throughout the year. Your turn might be next.

Your $10,000 might be waiting. Your home might be closer than you think.
